The new digital environment has enormous potential for developing new business models to exploit digital content. At the same time, the regime of intellectual property rights has the aim of providing legal certainty to the different agents operating in the value chain of such innovative business models. However, as is stated by the European Digital Agenda, there job to be done due to respond to this challenge adequately: the fragmentation of markets, transaction costs in licensing and lack of enough harmonization still place European (and Spanish) market behind other advanced economies us the U.S. in the field of digital content. This session will be dedicated to exploring these challenges, discuss progress and reflect on possible innovative solutions to extract the maximum benefit from the opportunities presented by new technologies, which definitely result in a greater benefit for all citizens.
