Searches are the gateway to the Internet, and a gateway that’s closed to competitors can only have negative effects on consumers. The existing monopoly in the market of online searches is a growing concern among advertisers, publishers, content owners, consumers and other actors throughout Europe. More specifically, the existence of different patterns to block access to those contents and data needed by competitors to provide consumers with the adequate results and attract advertisers. ICOMP has recently published an academic research paper that analyzes the economic impact of search dominance in the information society. The best way to guarantee that everybody enjoys the benefits resulting from innovation and online contents development, as well as the means to have access to them, is by ensuring that markets keep open to competitors.
