  • Room: T5

In a context of growingly decentralized communications, the Internet has allowed citizens all over the world to organize and share human rights violations, turning numbers and statistics into stories and faces that others can relate to and stand up for. Trhough digital tools, citizens from repressive contexts such as the Middle East and North Africa have broken the walls of censorship and propaganda to share these abuses with the world, attracting global empathy. During this session we will go through the opportunities new tools and spaces have provided and the increasing threats that government control poses on these same spaces.
